Deaths related to HIV / AIDS in reference institution, Amazonas, 2016

To describe the profile and causes of death of patients with HIV / AIDS, in a reference institution in the city of Manaus, Amazonas, 2016. Methods: This study is a series of cases of HIV / AIDS reported at SINAN dated in 2016.The associated causes of death were obtained from the registration protocol of the reference date and the start date of the ART dispensation was consulted by the patients. The causes of death were grouped by electronic consultation in chapters, according to ICD10. Results: In 2016 there were 246 deaths in cases reported as HIV / AIDS. The distribution of cases per month occurred successively, with April (28 / 246-11.4%) with the highest record. Deaths were more frequent among men (193 / 246-78.5%). Regarding age distribution, the age group of 13-40 years did not differ significantly from the group older than 40 years (p value = 0.63) and age average death in women was equal to men (p value = 0.37). The survival of patients was defined by the time elapsed between the diagnosis of HIV / AIDS and the death, ranging from <1 month (78 / 246-31.7%), <1 year (54 / 246-22.0%), between 1-2 (26 /246-10.6%), 2-5 (36 / 246-14.6%) and more than 5 years (52 / 246-21.1%). In cases older than 5 years of ART there was a lower death record (13 / 246-5.3%). The distribution by causes associated death by ICD chapters highlighted infectious diseases and parasitic. Conclusions: The diseases indicative of AIDS were the most mentioned in the death. Early diagnosis and improvements in follow-up and treatment in the setting where ART has significantly improved patient survival. Quality of life for people with HIV / AIDS.
