New Treatment Regimen with Calcipotriol/Betamethasone Ointment on Psoriasis Vulgaris of Stationary Stage

Background: Calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate ointment has been successfully used in psoriasis vulgaris of active stage. However, the data of stationary stage was lack.

Aims: To investigate the optimal regime of calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate ointment on psoriasis vulgaris of stationary stage.

Methods: Patients were randomized into 3 groups, with calcipotriol/betamethasone ointment twice weekly in group A, the same ointment once weekly in group B and calcipotriol ointment once daily in group C. The treatments last 3 months and subjective assessments were conducted pre- and post-treatments.

Results: After the continuous treatments, the PASI score of group A significantly decreased and remained at a very low level, and the scores were significantly lower than those of group B. Whereas no significant difference was seen between group A and group C at all observation time-points. More patients in group A were satisfied with their treatment than in group B, and no significant difference was seen between group A and group C.

Conclusion : Twice weekly application of calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate ointment was shown to be a clinically beneficial, well-tolerated and cost-effective method of maintenance therapy for psoriasis vulgaris of stationary stage.
